How to Fix “PHP Selector is not available. Please, contact your hoster.” (License Active)

Many server admins and website owners encounter this frustrating error in cPanel:

PHP Selector is not available. Please, contact your hoster.

This issue can occur even when the CloudLinux license is active, which often confuses server administrators and hosting providers. Many assume the problem is licensing-related, but in reality, the license is not the cause.

The good news is that this error is easy to fix. In most cases, it happens because CageFS is not enabled or not properly updated for cPanel users. Since PHP Selector depends on CageFS to function, any CageFS misconfiguration will cause PHP Selector to be unavailable in cPanel—despite having a valid CloudLinux license.

In this guide, we’ll explain why this happens and how to fix it properly.

Why This Error Appears

PHP Selector is a CloudLinux feature that depends heavily on CageFS.
Even if:

  • CloudLinux license is active

  • LVE Manager is installed

  • PHP Selector is enabled globally

If CageFS is disabled, cPanel users will see the error.

So the issue is not licensing, but CageFS configuration.

 Symptoms You’ll Notice

  • CloudLinux license shows Active

  • PHP Selector is enabled in WHM

  • cPanel users still see:

PHP Selector is not available. Please, contact your hoster.

  • Only some users are affected (or all users)

The Working Solution

Step 1: Login as ROOT via SSH

Connect to your server using SSH as the root user.

Step 2: Enable CageFS for All Users

Run the following command:

cagefsctl --enable all

This enables CageFS for every cPanel account on the server.

Step 3: Force CageFS Update

Next, rebuild and update CageFS:

cagefsctl --force-update

This step is very important. It synchronizes the CageFS environment and ensures PHP Selector works correctly.

Step 4: Wait for Completion

The update may take a few minutes depending on:

  • Number of cPanel users

  • Server resources

Once completed, no reboot is required.
