You built the website. You are proud of it. You search your business name on Google and… nothing.<\/div>\n
This is one of the most common frustrations for a new business owner, and it almost always comes down to a few missing technical steps rather than bad luck.<\/div>\n

Understand What “Showing Up On Google” Actually Requires<\/h2>\n
Before your website can rank for anything, Google needs to know it exists, crawl its pages, and decide those pages are worth showing in search results. This happens in three stages: discovery, crawling, and indexing. A brand new site has typically been through none of these yet.<\/div>\n
For a completely new website, indexing can take anywhere from a few days to several months without any action from you, since Google’s crawlers have no reason yet to visit a domain nobody has linked to. The good news is you can speed this up significantly.<\/div>\n

Step 1: Set Up Google Search Console<\/h2>\n
This free tool from Google is the single most important step for a new website.<\/div>\n

  1. Go to Google Search Console and sign in with a Google account.<\/li>\n
  2. Add your website as a property, choosing either the domain or URL prefix method.<\/li>\n
  3. Verify ownership, usually through a DNS record, an uploaded HTML file, or your HoganHost DNS management panel<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    Once verified, Search Console becomes your direct line into how Google sees your site, including indexing status, search queries, and any technical errors blocking visibility.<\/div>\n

    Step 2: Submit A Sitemap<\/h2>\n
    A sitemap is a file listing every important page on your website, and it helps Google discover your content far more efficiently than waiting for it to stumble across your pages naturally.<\/div>\n
    Most WordPress sites generate one automatically through an SEO plugin. Once you have your sitemap URL (usually something like yourbusiness.com.ng\/sitemap.xml), submit it inside Google Search Console under the Sitemaps section.<\/div>\n

    Step 3: Request Indexing For Your Key Pages<\/h2>\n
    Inside Search Console, use the URL Inspection tool to check your homepage and most important pages individually. If a page shows as not indexed, you can request indexing directly.<\/div>\n
    This does not guarantee instant results, and Google currently limits individual requests to roughly ten to twelve URLs per day per property. But for a brand-new site, requesting indexing on your homepage and top service pages gives Google a clear nudge to prioritize crawling them sooner.<\/div>\n
