By default, WHMCS does not include support for domain registration of extensions like .NG<\/strong> and other unsupported domain extensions. In order to offer .NG<\/strong> domain extensions to your customers, you will need to manually add a record for these domains in the whois.json<\/strong> file located in the WHMCS directory<\/strong> on your CPanel.<\/p>\n

To begin, let look at the meaning of whois servers and how to customize the whois servers.<\/p>\n

What are WHOIS Servers?<\/span><\/h2>\n

WHOIS Servers are used to determine the availability of domains. In most cases, WHOIS servers will also return the WHOIS Contact Information for a domain.<\/p>\n

WHMCS supports a large number of TLDs by default. However, if you wish to sell a domain extension not offered by default, you will need to add the WHOIS Server for it.<\/p>\n

Customising WHOIS Servers<\/span><\/h2>\n

The WHOIS Server definitions shipped with WHMCS by default can be found in\u00a0\/resources\/domains\/dist.whois.json<\/i>. This file should\u00a0not<\/b>\u00a0be edited.<\/p>\n

<\/i>Prior to WHMCS 7.0, this file was located at \/includes\/whoisservers.php<\/i>\u00a0in a different format<\/div>\n

To add or edit whois server definitions, begin by creating a custom whois.json<\/strong> file located at \/resources\/domains\/whois.json<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

Inside it, define the whois servers you wish to add or modify only. This file will remain in place when updating WHMCS.<\/p>\n

Below is a sample custom whois.json file defining the whois servers for\u00a0..ng<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0.com.ng<\/i>, and overriding the default whois server for\u00a0.ng<\/i><\/p>\n
