This usually happens when one of the cPanel processes is failing.<\/p>\n<p>As a part of our\u00a0Server Management Services, we help our Customers with WHM related requests regularly.<\/p>\n<p>Let us today analyze the causes and the fix for this error.<span id=\"more-276883\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What causes WHM Internal server error 500<\/h2>\n<p>We recently received a request from one of our customers that they are receiving an \u201cinternal server error\u201d as shown below while accessing WHM:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1647\" src=\"https:\/\/hoganhost.com.ng\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/WHM-Internal-server-error-500.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hoganhost.com.ng\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/WHM-Internal-server-error-500.png 728w, https:\/\/hoganhost.com.ng\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/WHM-Internal-server-error-500-300x127.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This error can trigger in a number of scenarios. For instance, while using ConfigServer WHM plugins,\u00a0 while setting up two-factor authentication,\u00a0 or randomly when they try to login to WHM or cPanel interface.<\/p>\n<p>The exact reason for this error may vary based on the particular situation. However, this error usually happens due to one of the cPanel processes failing to load or still running in the background.<\/p>\n<p>Let us now discuss two different solutions for this error.<\/p>\n<h2>How to fix WHM Internal server error 500<\/h2>\n<p>As we said earlier, the exact steps to fix the error may vary based on the reason for the error. To have a better idea on what is the reason, our Support engineers check the cPanel error log:<\/p>\n<pre><code>tail -f \/usr\/local\/cpanel\/logs\/error_log<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>This error log helps to identify the reason for the error. In most cases running a cPanel update helps to fix the error. For this,\u00a0 initially, we need to Stop the cPanel service with the command below:<\/p>\n<pre><code>service cpanel stop<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>Now our Support Engineers update cPanel\/WHM with the command:<\/p>\n<pre><code>\/scripts\/upcp \u2013force<\/code><\/pre>\n<p><span class=\"mediumtext\">This command only updates the control panel software.
